Shania Twain: Shania: Still the One: Live from Vegas Blu-ray Review

Shania: Still the One: Live from Vegas captures the complete stage performance of Shania Twain from her two-year residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace that ended in December 2014. The 90-minute concert features 25 songs covering her biggest hits, country songs, and crossover favorites. I have always been a big fan of Shania with several of her CDs adorning my shelves but for some reason I’ve never considered seeing her live. Watching this has me very disappointed about that, especially missing this show in Las Vegas.

The concert is visually stunning and would have been even better to experience in person. There is a 13-piece band, horses, dancers, and Shania initially takes the stage upon a flying motorcycle. The video screen at the back of the stage is enormous, and while stunning in high definition, a television screen still doesn’t do it justice. Her glamorous costume changes are amazing and so are the massive ever-shifting onstage props.

Putting aside the theatrics of the show, Shania sounds terrific. Her voice has held up phenomenally and she belts out song after song without a hitch. She has a impressive catalogue of songs. Her personality really comes across as well as she wanders the audience dancing with fans and posing for pictures.

The Blu-ray release includes “Backstage Pass,” a 60-minute behind-the-scenes featurette. She signed the deal with Caesars in 2011 and this extra tracks the conception, development, rehearsals, and everything else that went into creating this spectacular show. The footage points out another aspect of the concert that people at home missed out on: they have scents wafting into the crowd that match the theme of the song, such as a forest, a campfire, and even a fragrance when it is snowing on the audience.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching and recommend it for any fan. If like me, you have missed out on seeing Shania live, her “Rock this Country” tour starts June 2015.
