What else can be said about Steven Spielberg’s 1975 masterpiece Jaws that hasn’t been said already? The legendary film has influenced pop culture ever since its release 45 years ago. Its now-famous (albeit complicated) production; superb direction; John Williams score; the amazing performances from Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss, and Robert Shaw; and the still iconic opening remain the stuff of movie lore. Whether you’ve seen the film countless times or coming into it as a newbie, you’re guaranteed to opt to stay on dry land. It continues to be one of the greatest films ever made, and a definite cautionary tale for swimmers of all ages.
Being released on a new 4K Limited Edition Blu-ray, I bet the picture and sound is better than ever. There aren’t any new special features, but the ones included are still viable. They include the making-of Jaws documentary; The Shark is Still Working: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws featurette; Jaws: The Restoration featurette; deleted scenes and outtakes; From the Set featurette; theatrical trailer; and material from the Jaws archives. A digital code is included, along with a booklet featuring introductory text, an essay on the Peter Benchley novel, cast and crew bios, filmmaking facts, and much more. If you love Spielberg, films of the 1970s, and films in general, then owning this is obviously a no-brainer and a top recommendation.
