Aliens 4K UHD is the Pick of the Week

What else can one say about James Cameron’s iconic 1986 blockbuster sequel Aliens, the groundbreaking follow-up to Ridley Scott’s legendary 1979 sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien, that hasn’t already been said? It remains a groundbreaking action classic that took its many genres to many unexpected places. It also helped establish a modern feminist hero in Ellen Ripley (the great Sigourney Weaver).

Tomorrow, it will be released in all-new Ultimate Collector’s Edition, where it basically contains the same special features as previous releases, like both the theatrical and 1990 special edition, direct access to additional scenes, the making of Aliens, featurettes about the inspiration and design, stills and footage, and much more. So, I wouldn’t call it a perfect edition, but if you’re a completist or you don’t have previous releases, then it’s probably going to be a good release for you.

Sorry for this brief description, but it’s Aliens after all, one of the seminal and popular films of all-time, so I don’t think it requires much more analysis, which is just my opinion.

Other releases:

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (Criterion): A documentary portrait of groundbreaking artist Nan Golding as well as the downfall of the Sackler family, the pharmaceutical dynasty that was responsible for the incomprehensible death toll caused by the opioid epidemic.

All That Money Can Buy (aka The Devil and Daniel Webster) (Criterion): A 1941 classic about Jabez Stone (James Craig), a hard-working farmer who tries to live life decently, but obstacles force him to make a deal with the Devil (Walter Huston). When he obviously lives to regret it, he seeks help from the legendary orator and politician Daniel Webster (Edward Arnold).

Poor Things: Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest raunchy outing starring Emma Stone in her Oscar-winning role as Bella Baxter, a young and vibrant woman brought to life by genius and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe).
