Hadestown: The Musical Blu-ray Giveaway

Cinema Sentries has teamed up with Bleecker Street to award one lucky reader a Hadestown: The Musical Blu-ray. For those wanting to learn more, read below

In his review, Steve Geise explains, “After a brief theatrical run this summer, the filmed performance of the Tony-winning Broadway musical arrives on Blu-ray starring the show’s five original stars. Interestingly though, it is not a capture of the original Broadway production, with the original 2019 cast members instead returning to the show years later to briefly take over an in-progress West End run in London last year.”

The story follows young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice who fall in love, but face severe poverty and harsh winters caused by a rift between King Hades and his wife Persephone. Seeking stability and food, Eurydice is lured away to work in Hades’ mechanized underground factory, Hadestown. Determined to save her, Orpheus journeys to the underworld and moves Hades with a song about love, winning a chance to lead her back to the living world—provided he trusts she is following without looking back.

Cast: Reeve Carney, Eva Noblezada, André De Shields, Amber Gray, Patrick Page, Jewelle Blackman, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, Kay Trinidad

Geise goes on to say, “Even as this film seemingly serves as the final curtain call for the five stars’ involvement with the show, it also captures their masterful performances for all time.”
