With the Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson recreated writer J.R.R. Tolkein's fantasy world of Middle Earth to perfection. The films satisfied critics and the general public, die-hard fans and those new to the world of hobbits and wizards, orcs and dwarves. Now, after much debate and deal-making, Jackson is back to bring to life the prequel to the Lord of the Rings movies, The Hobbit. He is breaking the book into three separate movies which, like the original trilogy will come out in consecutive years. The first movie, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14. There have already been a plethora of images and videos for the film and Cinema Sentries is proud to present them to you now.
The Plot: A curious hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, journeys to the Lonely Mountain with a vigorous group of dwarves to reclaim a treasure stolen from them by the dragon Smaug.
The Filmmakers: Many of the people involved with the original trilogy are coming back including director Peter Jackson and his writing/producing partner Fran Walsh plus actors Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, Ian Holme, and Andy Serkis. Then of course there are many new actors with new parts including Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Richard Armitage, and Lee Pace.
The Status: Locked on Board. While there were certainly a few problems with the original trilogy, all-in-all it was an epic, amazing piece of work and with so many of those responsible for it back on board with The Hobbit I'm utterly anxious to see what they can do with this story.
