Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo returns to the Los Angeles Convention Center this Halloween weekend for the 2015 edition. The three-day event is jam-packed with programming. These are the panels that look to be the most interesting/entertaining with their synopses from the Expo website.
Star Trek Stories (Room: 518, 4:00pm) - Hear from the saviors of Star Trek TOS, John and Bjo Trimble, and classic Star Trek writer David Gerrold about Trek's early days. Mr. Gerrold became a fan of a show and began submitting stories to become scripts, eventually leading to "The Trouble with Tribbles" and many novelizations and other Star Trek stories. The Trimbles were inspired to start the letter-writing campaign that ultimately sent the series into syndication and kept it alive for fifty years. Their fan-interest ultimately led to a one of a kind behind the scenes knowledge of the show and lots of fun trivia!
Hey, I Remember That: Cult Cartoons of the 80's and 90's (Room: 503, 5:00pm) - A look into the less remembered animated series of the 80's and 90's. Everyone knows He-Man, Transformers, Batman, Pinky and the Brain. But do they remember Exo Squad? Inhumanoids? King Arthur and the Knights of Justice? This panel looks back fondly on shows that never seemed connect as big as the mainstream but were still pieces of work on their own.
"Star Trek Continues" - Original Star Trek Web Series Finishing the Starship Enterprise's 5 Year Mission (Room: 511ABC, 11:00am) - Star Trek Continues is an independently produced award winning series that has painstakingly brought back the look, feel, and vision of classic Star Trek. When you watch, you’ll think Star Trek did in fact complete its five-year mission and you’ve just found the lost fourth and fifth seasons. Our amazing cast is composed of faces you know - including Grant Imahara from Mythbusters as Sulu, and Christopher Doohan - son of James Doohan - reprising his father’s iconic role as Scotty. Come join the cast and crew to watch an episode and discuss this wildly popular series that picks up right where original Star Trek ended. Step back in time to 1969 - and re-experience the show that started it all thru these new adventures!
Premiere: The Fall of Men (Screening Room 411, 12:00pm) - The Dragon Ball Z fan film, which screened its YouTube hit trailer last year, is set to premiere the entire film right here at Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo!
Blood, Sweaters & Tears: Getting In Deep with Bojack Horseman (Room: 515A, 2:00pm) - Decider and Vox have called BoJack Horseman the best show on Netflix. Hitfix went a step further and said it’s “one of TV’s very best shows.” Now, in their first con appearance ever, the creators of BoJack Horseman explore the heart and soul of the funny, weird, unpredictable, groundbreaking animated series. Join creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg, series designer Lisa Hannawalt and supervising director Mike Hollingsworth for an in-depth journey into the making of the smash-hit Netflix series.
Reinventing the Franchise, presented by Mysterious Galaxy (Screening Room 518, 4:30pm) - A panel of writers talk about their favorite franchises that have not yet been resurrected, and how they’d do it if they were given the job. They’ll also play a quick game show where the audience tries to stump them with old franchises, and offer their hot new takes. Winners could get a bazillion-dollar deal with Disney if they come up with the next big idea. (Disclaimer: this is not going to happen.)
Worst Collection Ever LIVE! (Room: 511ABC, 10:00am) - Join Shawn Marek and Jen Stansfield as they humorously discuss two books from their extensive -- and cheap -- comic book collection. These are comics fished out of dollar bins and rescued from the back corners of comic book stores across the country. These books have no monetary value but they love them anyway! Special guest Mike Schmidt, host of "The 40-Year-Old Boy" podcast!
2001: A Space Odyssey Cast Reunion (Hot Topic Main Stage, 10:30am) - Join Keir Dulea and Gary Lockwood on the Hot Topic Main Stage!
William Shatner's Man O' War: Cinematic Graphic Novel (Hot Topic Main Stage, 11:00am) - William Shatner’s Man O’ War: Cinematic Graphic Novel —Wiliam Shatner (creator/executive producer), Gary Laird, Mariano Nicieza, Scott Liggett (LNL executive producers), Ed Lang (Panelfly president) premier Season 2 of a new type of digital comic book.
