Warner Brothers has released the final trailer for the Zack Snyder-directed, Christopher Nolan-produced Man of Steel, set to be released June 14.
Let me say upfront, I've never been a big Superman fan. The character certainly has great potential but his nigh-invulnerability lessens the stakes of the stories and limits any possibility that he might fail. Of course, that's presuming his foe doesn't have any kryptonite, like almost everyone seemed to during his comic book adventures in 1958-59, which I am reading in Showcase Presents: Superman Volume 1.
The hero always succeeding likely works for some people because it fits in with their worldview, but I prefer the Peter Parker-types who struggle with the responsibility of being a hero, have doubts, quit, and sometimes fail.
I haven't watch every incarnation of the character, but as a kid I enjoyed Filmation's The New Adventures of Superman and I find Superman II to be the only movie worth repeat viewing. Even with the talent behind the camera, I didn't have much interest in Man of Steel. That is, until I saw this new trailer, which has me hooked with both character moments and impressive action. Sit back and enjoy.
Though an origin story, Man of Steel echoes a much older one as it appears Superman (Henry Cavill) tries to find his place in the unaccepting world his father Jor-El (Russell Crowe) sent him to. In addition, the cast also features Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White.
