The Hunger Games: Catching Fire the sequel to 2012's The Hunger Games, and second part of The Hunger Games Quadrilogy (the third and final book The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is set to be released as two films), is set to be released in IMAX and regular theaters on November 22, 2013. Taking the reins from Gary Ross, Francis Lawrence is set to direct this film and its susequent sequels. Joining the cast will be Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Lynn Cohen, Meta Golding, Amanda Plummer, and Jeffrey Wright.
The plot starts up shortly after the ending of The Hunger Games with Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) returning to her home safely after winning the 74th annual Hunger Games, but being forced to once again to leave her home for a Victor's Tour of the country. Along the way she finds rebellions rising up in every corner and soon learns the President expects her to fight once again in the 75th annual Hunger Games.
I've neither read the books nor seen the film, and like many others have noted the plot seems a little too close to the Japanese film Battle Royale, and yet I'm strangely excited by this series. The books and first film have been on my list for some time and the film sequel appears to be interesting. File this under On the Radar as I'm interested in it, but not yet ready to lay down my money.
