Cinema Sentries and Warner Archive have teamed up to give one lucky reader the opportunity to win a collection of animated Christmas specials from Hanna-Barbera and Rankin/Bass.
The Hanna-Barbera Christmas Classic Collection offers three specials. First up is A Christmas Story. No, not that one. This is the 1972 special featuring Goober the dog and Gumdrop the mouse trying to save Christmas for a little boy named Timmy, whose letter never made it to Santa. Narrated by Dick Van Dyke, The Town Santa Forgot is based on the poem "Jeremy Creek" by Charmaine Severson and tells the story about a young boy whose greed teaches him a lesson. Casper's First Christmas is an all-star affair as the friendly ghost celebrates with Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, Huckleberry Hound, Snagglepuss, Quick Draw McGraw, Augie Doggie and Doggie Daddy.
The Rankin/Bass TV Holiday Favorites Collection does one better with four special. The Little Drummer Boy Book II contines the adventures of Aaron who this time is seen helping Simeon, a maker of silver bells. The Stingiest Man in Town is a version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol with Walter Matthau provides the voice of Scrooge. Pinocchio's Christmas is the wooden boy's first. The Leprechaun's Christmas Gold is stolen by a banshee and Dinty Doyle, the sailor partially responible, helps them recover it.
